September Activities

Oct 11, 2024 | Prakash Boys Institute, Ruth Girls Institute

The month of September 2024 has been quite an eventful one for all of us here at Prakash. With the new students coming in we had a lot to get done. Here is a quick update on the activities:

1. Teachers Day Celebration

On September 05, 2024 as every year the students celebrated Teacher’s Day with great excitement. They performed dances, gave a speech and conducted fun games for all the teachers. We all had a wonderful time, as it was a sweet escape from our daily schedules.

2. Orientation Day

We conducted an orientation program for the new batch of students on September 18, 2024 in the RGI auditorium. The boys and girls along with staff were in attendance. Nupi presented the History, Mission and Goals with the students. She also shared basic etiquette that is expected from the students while they are at Prakash. Nagesh gave a formal introduction of the staff. He also talked about How Prakash functions financially, why we have Shramadaan (twice daily work for the students). He briefed them about the payment of their fees, fines, medical dues etc. Later, the RGI girls were sent back to their classes after which Moses shared the PBI hostel code of conduct with the boys. We made use of a presentation this time, hoping to make it interesting for the students with the help of some pictures. They were very attentive and excited to learn about the organization.

3. Organ-Tissue Donation Awareness Program

On September 27, 2024 a program was conducted on Organ-Tissue Donation Awareness. It was organized in coordination with the Christian Service Agency.

Dr. Samir Jahagirdar, Consultant Plastic & Cosmetic Surgeon who is the Vice President of the Indian Medical Association, Nagpur Branch was the key facilitator. He educated the students and staff about the various kinds of organ-tissue donations that can be done today. He also spoke about how India has a rate of merely 0.8 organs available per million population.

Even though it is the largest population in the world, owing to the stigma and superstitions of the country we are unable to provide the necessary healthcare assistance to those in need. It was an interactive session as the students as well as the staff asked lots of questions.
